Synopsis
Adena and Paedyn have always been inseparable. Fate brought them together when they were young, but friendship ensured they would always protect each other and the home they built in the slums of Loot. But now Paedyn—an Ordinary—has been selected for the Purging Trials, which means almost certain death.
Now alone in Loot, Adena must fend for herself. After attempting to steal, she's rescued by a mysterious man from the market. Mak's shadowy past and secretive power set him apart from the other low-level Elites of Loot. And as the pair team up to see their loved ones before the Trials, the quest tests their loyalty, their love, and their lives.
Review
3 days. That's all it took to finish this, or at least a 3 day span, could have been 48 hours max though.
So, after powerless this story is a lot brighter, except for the fact you know the ending already and that alone makes the story heartbreaking.
Left to fend by herself. Adena has to return to her poor thieving ways and its on one of these escapades, that she is caught by Mak.

Over the course of the 2 weeks, they form a bond one that has then ending breaking your heart all over again.
Mak, like Kai, is a Wielder meaning he can harness the power of those around him, which is in itself dangerous because to the world around him, only Kai is one. And that puts a target on his back should anyone know.
I didn't know if I really wanted to read this book after reading POWERLESS but considering I grabbed this book first and randomly one day in the works before even knowing about the series I decided I would and I'm glad I did.
