Britney Spears is a teenage icon to anyone who grew up in the early 00's.
And from the outside perspective she went from bubbly and sparkly to troubled quickly - at least from the memory of someone nearly 40.
She was making headlines for an abundant of reasons. JT. The Break-up. The Marriage. Kevin. Children and then she spiralled downwards and more so then, we believed what we read. The Media was the truth back then and so were magazines.
Now at nearly 40 I take everything with a pinch of salt and to be honest I try and stay clear of the media because its 99% false, exaggerated and one sided. As is most of social media - not all but most.
Through the book I knew exactly what outfits Britney was describing without looking it up. I knew all the key moments except her childhood and most importantly what was happening during her conservatorship. It was easy to "know" what the media told us but to read it in Britney's words was truly heart-breaking. No one and definitely no grown ass adult should be treated like that and I'm so glad that she got her freedom.
I won't lie she does pop up on my feed now and then and my brain pings with the "what is she doing" but I get it. I get it now! she's being free. She's being herself and bringing herself her own joy. playing dress up and dancing. Is that illegal? hell no! and it gives me a clearer head on what I see and think of some random person on the internet because I have no right to judge anyone or cast a doubting thought - tough nut to crack when its embedded in your upbringing - but hell we're cracking it!
I hope Britney enjoys her life without the toxic family who did nothing to protect her and only exploited her. I'm happy she's finding her voice regardless of if she's being a woman or that child inside her. She deserves her peace and happiness
