Synopsis

Julian Rousseaux has a problem. He’s single, and for the world’s wealthiest vampires, the social season is about to begin. Julian would rather stake himself than participate in the marriage market. But as the eldest eligible Rousseaux, he’s expected to find a wife before the season ends―whether he likes it or not.

When cellist Thea literally stumbles into his life at a gala, he knows she's the last person he could ever fall in love with. She's too innocent, too kind, and way too human. But now that she knows about his world, she's also a walking target. She needs protection. He needs a fake girlfriend to discourage overzealous vampire matchmaking.

So, Julian makes Thea an irresistible offer: pretend to be his lover and he’ll change her life. For one year, they’ll attend the season’s social events together in exchange for his protection and a way out of her mother’s crippling medical debt.

She can’t say no. But the vampire world is impossibly decadent and darker than Thea ever imagined, and Julian’s filthy rich vampire family wants her out of the way. But with each moment they share, new dangers emerge: a desire as forbidden as their stolen touches, an awakening of a long-dead heart, and secrets that could tear them both apart.

Sensual, dangerous, provocative ― step into a daring new world of dark magic, primal attraction, and breathtaking romance.

Review

Oh to be a vampire and go to sleep for 30 years! But I dread to think the aches and pains I'd be in. Lord I feel like I need rehab after sleeping 12 hours!
We never know the full story as to why he did that But I can imagine its something family related.
Thea. The typical fighting to keep her head above water FMC. working everything to keep the money coming in to get her through life. Completely heroic in my eyes because you would do anything for your parent(s) if you can. And She does. After her mother fights cancer... she's trying to lessen the burden of the medical bills.

Thea and Julian cross paths at a vampire social event... as one does. and instantly Julian is in that kill or kiss predicament. Thea on the other hand chooses flight... as anyone would when they're in front of a predators eyes

Their romance starts in that moment, this need and want from Julian is instant, even though their species don't match and Julian's life rules, which do kinda scream olden, but he is 900 years old... I think, don't match their romance either.

But these two are determined and see everything through love, or lust, I can't decide to be together. I love the plot so far and I'm intrigued as to where this is all going BUT I also feel like there is alot of emphasis on the lust. And I get it. Thea is a Virgin which means that if Julian takes her virginity she is tied to him... I can't remember the exact word for it. But there is also a mating element to their relationship.

Thea is also unable to be compelled by Julian so there is something deeper and hidden in the plot. But again their bodies are craving something they can't have without that added bind that cannot be broken unless one of them dies.

And yes we love a bit of spice in a book but I also want the plot.

The ending of the book is a bloody cliff-hanger which had me picking up book 2 instantly. Julian has pushed Thea away because of the Vampire council and Thea has heard her mother is back in hospital and for a human being 2 hits is going to physically and mentally drain your ass.

Like I said, It had me grabbing book 2 instantly so I'm all over this and a grumpy, broody vampire. I just kinda wish that their was less spotlight on their sexual tension. This seems like a series where I want to know the ins and outs of the plot!
